As a mature writer I draw on a myriad of life experiences to write about. Subjects I’ve covered include family life, relationships, weight issues and addictions as I have experience of all of these. I’ve also written about having pets, partying, shopping and conducted celebrity interviews. However, I have made health my area of expertise and have covered many health related features such MS, ME and cancer. My features have appeared on health pages of the Guardian, Telegraph, Daily Mail and Irish Independent among others. I believe in thorough research and balanced reporting and well as high standards of writing. I have been able to investigate complex medical issues and then portray them in an easy to digest format for readers. I believe that copy should sparkle with passion and life as well as being highly helpful and informative. With health features, thorough research with forensic attention to detail is important to me to ensure complete accuracy and clear dispatch of information to the reader. Once I have a thorough understanding of all the issues, be they medical, scientific, political or legal, I am then able to translate that into interesting and informative copy. With lifestyle features I am able to inject some light heartedness into the copy. Having covered most subjects under the sun from sport to property, to health to holidays you’ll find me an accurate, versatile and hard working writer. |

Biography
I am a freelance journalist many years experience in media. I have a BTEC and NTCJ in journalism but have learnt a great deal about accuracy, thorough research and creative flair through on the ground training. You will see from my CV I first worked on a local newspaper in Ireland which was invaluable experience and a great training ground. Since then I moved on to freelancing for the British national press with articles published in the Guardian, the Daily Express, the Daily Mail, and the Telegraph among others. I have an extensive portfolio of work I would be happy to show you and my website www.sarahspendiff.com has more information and examples of published features.
I have reported for Channel 4 News and conducted in-depth research for an independent documentary maker. This called for forensic research into complicated legal, social and political matters. When investigating this I interviewed senior politicians, top social workers and those responsible for writing and setting the policy. I became an expert on the issues, finding and questioning those most qualified to help us and never shying away from the difficult questions. I can relay complicated information in an easy digestible form, I have the ability to find the pertinent people and facts, filtering out that which will not help, and have a healthy respect for and ability to adhere to deadlines, no matter how pressing as I work well under pressure.
Prior to my journalism training and work experience I studied several writing courses including life history and creative writing which has enriched my writing abilities. I therefore have over twenty years of writing experience, and forty of life experience, to draw on.
I live in Brighton with my husband, teenage son and mad dog.
