Biography
I've been a freelance journalist for 15 years & live near Winchester, Hants with my husband. I specialise in health, consumer & human interest. I've had articles published in the Daily Mail (Health & Femail), Glamour, the Daily Express, the Daily Mirror, Woman’s Own, Prima, Reveal, Take-a-break & Best, among others. I have also worked as a teacher and an EV (external verifier) for a magazine journalism course at a local FE college & University.
My other role is as a mum of three and part-time carer. I've had a self-help book published by Jessica Kingsley, London, about my experiences bringing up a challenging child with severe learning difficulties. A chapter I wrote for a book entitled the ‘Genetics of Mental Retardation,’ (Karger) for the New England Journal of Medicine, is being published this year. My experiences of caring for a child with a rare medical condition has led me to give talks and presentations about rare chromosome disorders, challenging behaviour, learning disabilities & communication to healthcare professionals & other parents. This year, I came 2nd out of 28 entries for Epilepsy Scotland's Journalist of the Year Award.
