Biography
Andy Oppenheimer is an independent UK-based specialist in CBRNE (chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear weapons and explosives) and counterterrorism. He was Editor of Jane's Nuclear, Biological and Chemical Defence Yearbook and NBC International, a UK-based magazine on CBRNE defence and countermeasures, from 2006 to 2008, and Co-editor of Jane's World Armies from 2002 to 2004. His book IRA - The Bombs and the Bullets: A History of Deadly Ingenuity is published by Irish Academic Press.
He has written extensively for Jane's Intelligence Digest, Jane's Terrorism & Security Monitor, Jane's Chem-bio Web, Military Periscope, RUSI Monitor, The World Today, Global Defence Review, Chemical & Biological Warfare Review, Defence Director, Asian Military Review, Crisis Response, Aviation Security International, The Detonator, NATO’s Nations and others. He provides consultancy reports for institutes, corporations and agencies, having worked as CBRN consultant for Jane's Consultancy Group, Oxford Analytica, Business Monitor International and Gerson Lehrman Group, and makes regular media appearances. He presents at conferences and seminars worldwide and is leading the SMi Group’s Masterclass, ‘IEDs: Facing the Challenge’ in London in July 2010.
Oppenheimer has over 20 years' experience in scientific publishing and government service as a commissioning editor, writer, and project manager. He is a member of the Royal United Services Institute and the International Association of Bomb Technicians and Investigators, and serves as Technical Advisor to the National Nuclear Museum, Albuquerque, NM and the Atomic Heritage Foundation, Washington, D.C.
