Biography
I've been a journalist for 15 years and started my career on a monthly IT magazine for CFOs called Computers & Finance. Two years later I moved to Computing where I edited the skills section of the magazine. I made the move into financial journalism in January 2004 as features editor of Accountancy Age. I spent six years on the title, latterly working as digital programmes editor, responsible for sourcing content and spokespeople for webseminars, podcasts and Accountancy Age TV, and hosting web events.
I love turning subjects deemed "dull" by the masses into entertaining and authoritative pieces. I have been shortlisted twice for the MCA/Management Today management writing awards, and in 2005 was awarded a Gold Award from US body TABPI (Trade, Association and Business Publications International).
After 15 years as a journalist, I have forged great contacts with those at the highest echelons of business, and profiled C-level executives at some of the UK's biggest corporations. My main areas of interest are accountancy regulation, financial reporting, corporate governance, management issues, skills and career development, technology and sustainable business.
I write regularly across the accountancy press, including Accountancy Age, Accounting & Business, CA Magazine and Accountancy. I also keep my hand in on technology issues as a regular contributor to IT journal Computing. Other clients include MyCustomer.com and PublicTechnology.net, to which I am a regular contributor.
Since going freelance I have also edited Finance Week, an online community for CFOs published by Sift Media (www.financeweek.co.uk), and contributed regularly to Business Green, a website focusing on environmental and sustainability issues for business.
Prior to Accountancy Age, I was the management editor across technology titles published by VNU including Computing, IT Week, CRN and Computeractive. I started my career at VNU as a section editor of Computing newspaper focusing on careers and skills issues for IT professional and a champion for the women in IT cause.
My first staff job in journalism was on a monthly technology magazine for finance directors called “Computers & Finance”.
I have a degree in French and German with European Studies from Bath University.
