Ian McCurrach Biography
Ian began working as a freelance journalist in May 2001 going from nought-to-ninety in nine seconds flat.
He pens a weekly travel column in The Independent on Sunday, which has been running for just over two years. His lifestyle and general feature contributions regularly appear in the Evening Standard, The Independent, The Times, The Sunday Times, The Sunday Telegraph and The Scotsman.
Magazine work includes regular features in publications as diverse as Now, Harper's & Queen, Hello!, Woman's Weekly and REAL. He also writes more in-depth articles for
specialist contract magazines such as Conde Nast's HSBC Premier and ILNG's
Prior to journalism, Ian worked as an actor and travelled extensively on theatre world tours visiting countries, which were not open to tourism at the time, including Burma and the Oman. Whilst Ian enjoyed playing a diverse range of roles in theatre and television, over time his dramatic focus shifted to writing and directing. Ian produced ten plays for a new-writing company housed in the studio of London's Young Vic Theatre, which toured nationally around the UK. He is also the author of the book Special Talents,
Special Needs, published by Jessica Kingsley.
Journalism has been a natural progression for Ian's work and his approach is unique. He successfully brings together his considerable life experience and his years spent analysing character and plot to produce features, which are highly original, insightful, informative and entertaining.
